Traffic between Ceske Budejovice and the city of Plzeň was stopped and was not expected to resume until the afternoon.
Inspector General of Railway Inspection Jan Kucera said four inspectors were investigating whether the incident was caused by human error, technical failure or systemic issues.
“The issue is to find out what caused this extraordinary event,” Kucera told national broadcaster ČT24.
