With the Indian Premier League (IPL) about to begin, many players are hoping to impress the selectors to find a place in the national team squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. As far as the goalkeeper position is concerned, the likes of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Jitesh Sharma, Rishabh Pant and others will be vying for a chance to make the team. Another name who is likely to make the cut is Dhruv Jurel, who impressed everyone on his debut for India in the Test series against England.
However, when Jurel was asked if he hopes to break the T20 code and make the Indian team for the World Cup, he honestly said that he can’t see himself anywhere.
“I don’t see myself anywhere. It has always been my dream (to represent India in the World Cup). But, I don’t think about it. If I get this opportunity, then it’s great. If I don’t understand, then Well. It’s about scoring runs for me, playing good cricket, helping my team win. That’s what I think about, no matter what game it is.” news24.
Jurel will not face competition from outside for the T20 World Cup squad, but also faces competition from within his IPL team, Rajasthan Royals. Samson, one of India’s finest wicketkeepers in white-ball cricket, will also be looking to make a lasting impression and secure the elusive T20 World Cup berth.
During India’s series against England, Jurel also earned MS Dhoni comparisons with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. However, the young stump is happy to be Dhruv.
“Thank you very much Mr. Gavaskar for comparing me with Mr. Dhoni. But I personally want to say that no one can replicate what Mr. Dhoni has done,” Jurel said at the India Today Conclave.
“There is only one Dhoni. There was and will always be. For me, I just want to be Dhruv Jurel. Whatever I do, I want to be Dhruv Jurel. But Dhoni sir is a legend and he will always remain that way form.”,” the young wicketkeeper-batsman added.
