Donald Trump wants Harvard University to “apologize”: White House

Arun Jain, 16/04/2025

Cambridge, United States:

President Donald Trump on Tuesday extended his war with threatening to snatch Harvard’s tax-free situation against Elite American universities, if the country’s most famous educational establishment refuses to present a comprehensive government inspection.

Harvard stands out to defy Trump, unlike many other universities and a string of powerful law firms that have turned into the rapid pressure of the White House in their cracks on American institutions.

Its chairman, Allen Garber said the school “will not talk about its freedom or its constitutional rights.”

On Tuesday, the threat of a major tax bill comes a day after a $ 2.2 billion cold in federal money.

Effects are already being felt in a campus, which has produced 162 Nobel Prize winners and whose alumni have ranked eight US presidents from Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg to eight US presidents.

The university said that a faculty member was asked to stop his tuberculosis research only because of “comprehensive funding freeze”.

But there was a decrease in the mood.

“I think I think it’s amazing. I think more schools are needed across the country. It shows that you are not going to bend, you are not going to take a free speech,” student Darius Hensnon told AFP.

Anti -Jewishness

Trump posted on social media that non-profit Harvard should “lose his tax exemption status and be taxed as a political entity” if he does not present the way to change his demands for the university, it runs themselves, including the rights of students and the rights for professors.

Trump and his White House team justified their pressure campaign on universities, which they say that the Palestinian terrorist group is a reaction to uncontrolled opponents and support to Hamas.

Trump “wants to see Harvard apologizing. And Harvard should apologize,” Press Secretary Karolin Levit told reporters.

Anti-Jewish allegations are based on a controversy over the protest against the Israeli war in Gaza which was swept away in the premises last year.

Columbia University in New York – a subscription of protests stood down last month and agreed to monitor his Middle Eastern Department after federal funds threatened with loss of $ 400 million.

The White House has also strengthened dozens of universities and colleges, which are with dangers to remove federal money on their policies to encourage racial diversity between students and employees.

The White House cited ideological goals in its unprecedented rift on law firms, pressurizing them to support hundreds of million dollars of dollars of legal work to support Trump.

Harvard defense

Harvard, the oldest and wealthiest university in the United States, is now the most prominent institution opposing Trump’s growing dialect for control.

The Trump administration is demanding that a wide range of Harvard departments fall under external supervision for potential anti-Jewishism. This requires a “approach variety” in students entry and choice of professors.

Garber urges that Harvard “cannot allow himself to be taken by the federal government” establishes a long-running, high-profile battle.

Hard-line presidential advisory universities such as Stephen Miller portray universities as a stronghold of anti-forces that need to be brought into the heel-a message that is strongly echoed with Trump’s hard-right-ante-antiti-antiti-base base.

For Trump’s opponents, Harvard refused to bend, giving a chance to draw a line in the sand against an authoritarian acquisition.

Former President Barack Obama wrote on X, “Harvard has set an example for other high-aid institutions-an illegal and haem-hand effort to prevent adaptation freedom.”

Dozens of universities and other stakeholders are struggling with the Trump administration in the court on separate comprehensive research funding cuts, which have trimmed employees and have created deep uncertainty among American academics.
