Dog who waited 7 years for adoption at Ohio shelter finally found he found his forever home “The textbook definition of a Christmas miracle.”
Onyx, 9 year old child mixed breed, He has spent most of his life at Animal Charities of Ohio in Mahoning County, and until now, “never had the chance to experience what a forever home really feels like — a couch to call your own, a love-filled routine,” the shelter said.
But now that’s all changed, as the shelter has announced on Christmas Eve Onyx is ready to be with his new family for the weekend.
The shelter said, “The rumors are true…after seven long years with us, our longest resident, Onyx, is finally going home.”
The emotional post continued, “It’s hard to put into words what this moment means to our staff and volunteers. Onyx has grown up here, he has taught us patience, resilience and unconditional love and he has left his mark on every heart he has met.”
The shelter added, “While we will miss him and his signature way of announcing himself with that unforgettable bark, our hearts are full knowing he is finding the forever home he always deserved.” “If anyone deserves this happy ending, it’s her.”
Cleveland-based influencer Joey Kinsley recently made weekly trips to the shelter to profile Onyx looking to find a home for herself.
Kinsley reacted to the news on social media, saying, “I just found out that Onyx is getting her forever home. The textbook definition of a Christmas miracle.”
Advertisement for the dog describes him as “a true gentleman” who needs a home “with someone who understands his needs.”
“He loves hiking and especially loves butt scratching! He can be very vocal at times, but that’s just to announce his presence!” It is said in the advertisement.
Local businesses also joined the effort to find a home for the dog by placing Onyx’s photo in their stores.
“I’ve been putting their picture on our tree at From the Heart Floral & Gift for years,” one business owner said on social media. “I have always missed Onyx year after year. I am so, so happy that she has finally found her forever home!”
Others who have been following Onyx’s journey also expressed joy at the news.
“Yayyyy!!! A Christmas miracle. Please don’t give up on her,” one person commented on the shelter’s Facebook page. “He’s going to need a lot of love, patience and time.”
