New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) The “white-collar” terror module captured in Faridabad relied on telegrams and an unusual lexicon of food references to hide its plans, an NDTV report quoted sources as saying.
According to reports, the four arrested doctors – whose medical licenses have now been revoked – used the names of everyday dishes as code language for explosives and terror attacks.
Inside their encrypted chat, “biriyani” meant explosive material, while “daawat” meant a planned attack. Investigators revealed that once the IED was ready, the groups would signal each other with the message: “Biryani is ready, get ready to feast.”
The module included Muzammil Shakeel, Dr Umar Muhammad Nabi, Shaheen Saeed and Adeel Ahmed Rather. Their alleged preaching originated from Imam Irfan Ahmed of Shopian, who was identified as the mastermind.
Ahmed reportedly met Dr. Umar Muhammad Nabi for the first time in 2020 during the treatment of his child at a hospital in Srinagar. That encounter led to continued contact and, as investigators believe, ultimately led to Dr. Omar’s radicalization.
Once assured of Dr. Omar’s loyalty, Ahmed instructed him to recruit others who showed “potential”. The group was later taken to meet Jaish-e-Muhammad operatives in South Kashmir, where they found two AK-series assault rifles – both of which have been recovered, including one from Saeed’s vehicle.
Saeed has told investigators that she met the others about six months before the Red Fort blast and claims she was unaware of the group’s true objectives.
Their names have now been removed from both the Indian Medical Register and the National Medical Register, effectively barring them from practicing medicine in India.
Meanwhile, NIA has arrested another accused Aamir Rashid Ali from Delhi. Ali allegedly purchased the Hyundai i20 used as a car bomb and assisted Dr. Umar in assembling the IED.
Faridabad’s Al Falah University, where all the accused worked, is also facing a wide-ranging investigation ranging from finance to administration.
As part of the investigation, a vehicle registered in the name of Dr. Umar has been seized.
