Advice about cuts on dopamine is still everywhere. From “dopamine fasting” to “anti-dopamine parenting” and even “raw-dogs” flights (without any screen, books or music), even ” Tikokok Influencers claim that these practices have resumed their mind.

Modern life constantly bombs our brain with excitement, scrolling feeds, video games, email ping and sugars snacks. It holds dopamine – the neurotransmitter is associated with reward and inspiration – in stable circulation.

Over time, this continuous activation can leave us, pursuing even more stimulation to make us feel “normal”. Every day, life starts to be comparatively blurred.

Therefore, it is no surprise that people have tried to reset their dopamine and come up with ways to change their behavior. But do these strategies actually work?

Can you actually detox from dopamine?

No, you can never really do “Detox“From dopamine itself. A detox involves eliminating a chemical from your body. If you pass through an alcohol detox, for example, you stop drinking and can relieve your body from alcohol -related toxins.

In terms of dopamine, a detox is impossible. Dopamine is naturally happening and plays an important role in various aspects of human physiology. It includes the joy and reward center of the brain, as well as inspiration, movement, excitement and sleep.

While a dopamine detox may feel intense, most people will not experience any meaningful, permanent improvement by avoiding one or two days. Dopamine regulation is a complex process affected by many factors, and it does not suddenly pass through the reset in a 24 -hour short period.

Research suggests that after the period of restraint, old habits and urges often return, until people actively create a new routine and combat the strategies that attach healthy reward routes.

So what can you do instead?

If you want to change your relationship with dopamine-operated behavior or substances, be ready for it to take 24 hours more time.

Replacement of “fast dopamine” awards with “slow dopamine” activities can gradually restore the sensitivity of the brain for happiness and helps to make life feel rich again.

This may involve returning to activities that require naturally more patience and effort, such as creative projects, exercise or learning something new.

But it may also include other pleasant experiences, such as adding someone face to face, or listening to the music you love.

These activities can activate dopamine routes, as well as release of other neurotransmitters, such as oxytocin and serotonin, which contribute to a positive mood.

The popularity of dopamine detox reflects the desire to re -connect with pleasures in the world overloaded by excretion and excitement. But there is no reset button for the brain’s dopamine system. Fortunately, we can pull ourselves with movement, music, connections and other ways.
