DNA sequencing can become the major goals for hackers, the study warns

New Delhi:

Hackers can take advantage of genomic data weaknesses using the next generation DNA sequencing (NGS) technology, warning a study on Thursday, urging the need to secure it.

Powerful sequencing tools NGS are used for the development of tailor drugs, cancer diagnosis, infectious disease tracking and gene research.

Researchers at the University of Partsmouth, UK expressed concern on how data violations, privacy violations and even hackers can be exploited by hackers to the equipment for future biothruts.

While steps are required to produce accurate results, they also open several points of vulnerability. As many DNA datasets are openly accessible online, the study warns that cyber criminal surveillance, manipulation, or misuse of information for malicious use, said researchers in the study published in IEEE Access magazine.

“Protection of genomic data is a wake-up call. It is not only about encryption-it is about the possibility of attacks that are not present yet. We need a paradigm change that we protect the future of accurate medicine,” Dr. Nasreen Anjum asked the University of Computing in Partsmouth.

The research team has identified new and emerging methods that hackers and people with malicious intentions can use the system to exploit or attack the system, such as synthetic DNA-encountered malware, AI-powered manipulation of genome data, and identification tracing through re-diagnostic techniques.

These threats are beyond specific data violations, individuals individual privacy, scientific integrity and risks to national security.

“Despite its importance, cyber-divine remains one of the most neglected and poorly understood research subjects and leaving a significant difference in global bio-safety. To ensure that our DNA information is safe and used for good, we are urged to find more research and cooperation to find ways to protect this powerful technology.

Experts called “governments, regulatory bodies, funding agencies and educational institutions” to prioritize “prioritizing the field” priority.

The team also shared recommendations and practical solutions, including a foundation for very strong cyber-basesurity, including safe sequencing protocols, encrypted storage, and AI-operated discrepancy detection.
