New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) The Congress on Friday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of promoting “divisive” ideology and demanded a ban on both the organizations from educational institutions.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba and Indian National Students Union president Varun Choudhary demanded strict action against ABVP workers who tried to change the attire of girl students at a government college in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur.
Lamba said that BJP leaders are defending the accused ABVP workers, which is quite shameful.
He stressed that they will not let the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh let these ABVP workers go free.
“They cannot be allowed to play with the dignity and respect of girls,” he said.
He also mentioned the alleged sexual harassment of a student at the South Asian University in Delhi and demanded action from Home Minister Amit Shah and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Chaudhary demanded that RSS and ABVP should be banned in educational institutions as they were spreading “divisive ideology”.
They also demanded that ABVP leader and DUSU joint secretary Deepika Jha be expelled for allegedly slapping a professor at a Delhi University affiliated college recently.
Referring to the activities of the RSS, he cited an incident in Kerala, where an IT professional committed suicide after revealing how he was sexually harassed and exploited for several years in RSS shakhas and training camps.
He alleged that NSUI workers in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are being harassed, threatened and harassed for opposing the divisive ideology of RSS in educational institutions.
