Bengaluru, Oct 30 (IANS) Responding to the controversy over his alleged derogatory comments against the Savita and Hadapada communities, former BJP national general secretary and MLC CT Ravi has expressed regret that his comments were distorted by vested interests.
The Savita and Hadapada communities are traditionally engaged in the profession of barber.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Ravi said, “It is being projected that I have insulted the Savita community. I have not made any such statement. There should be no scope for misunderstanding. If my words have hurt the sentiments of the Savita community, I am sorry.”
He further said, “Propaganda is being spread on social media by making false statements against me. I have never made such comments. As a Hindutva activist, there is no question of insulting anyone on the basis of caste.”
He said, “I request Savita and Hadapada community members not to give place to misunderstanding. Some people have misunderstood, while others are deliberately spreading false rumours. I will demand an investigation into this matter.”
Meanwhile, Karnataka Congress has
The Congress alleged that his derogatory comments against the Savita community were not merely his personal views but reflected the true culture of the BJP and the ideological teachings of the Sangh.
“Is this the same ‘Manusmriti-inspired casteist lesson’ that the RSS has given to BJP leaders, who have never shown respect for women, Dalits and backward classes?
CT Ravi, who has made remarks insulting the honor of the Savita community, and the BJP, which stands with him, should immediately apologize to the people of the state and the Savita community,” Congress demanded.
The incident occurred during Ravi’s visit to Chikkamagaluru Medical College recently. He reportedly became angry after learning that the Dean was absent despite prior notice of his visit.
While reprimanding Dean for his absence, Ravi allegedly used derogatory words and asked what Dean thought of him. This video went viral on Thursday, sparking controversy.
