Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 17th BRICS Summit, which is being held on 6-7 July 2025 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office.

Leaders held a productive discussion on various issues on the BRICS agenda, including the improvement of global rule, increasing the voice of the global South, peace and safety, multilateralism, strengthening issues of development and artificial intelligence.

Prime Minister Modi, according to the statement, thanked the President of Brazil for his hot hospitality and successful organization of the summit.
PM Modi addressed the inaugural session on “global rule and reforms of peace and security”. Later in the day, the Prime Minister also addressed a session on strengthening the multilateral, economic-financial matters and artificial intelligence. The session included participation by BRICS partners and invited countries.

Addressing the session on global rule and peace and security, the Prime Minister confirmed India’s commitment to increase the voice of the global South. He said that developing countries needed more support for sustainable development, in terms of access to climate finance and technology.

Saying that the 20th century global organizations could not deal with the 21st century challenges, they outlined the need to improve them.

For a multi -polar and inclusive world system, the Prime Minister said that global governance institutions such as the United Nations Security Council, IMF, World Bank and WTO would have to undergo immediate improvement to reflect contemporary realities. He thanked the leaders for highlighting the urgency of the United Nations Security Council reform and adopting a strong language on the issue in the announcement of the summit.

On peace and security, the Prime Minister underlined that terrorism was a serious threat to humanity. In this context, he said that in April 2025, the Pahalgam terrorist attack was not only an attack on India, but all of humanity were attacked.

Calling a strong global action against terrorism, the Prime Minister said that those who promote, promote or provide safe havens to terrorists should be dealt with in harsh words. He emphasized that there should be no double standards in dealing with terrorism. He thanked BRICS leaders for condemning the Pahalgam terrorist attack in the strongest words. Asked the BRICS countries to strengthen the global fight against terrorism, they emphasized that according to the statement, there should be zero tolerance to deal with the danger.

In detail on this subject, the Prime Minister said that conflict from West Asia to Europe was a matter of deep concern. He further said that India has always called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve such conflicts and is ready to contribute to such efforts.

Addressing the session on “strengthening the multilateralism, economic-financial matters and artificial intelligence”, the Prime Minister expressed importance to the strength of diversity and multi-polarity bricks.

He said that at a time when the world system was under pressure and the global community was facing uncertainty and challenges, the relevance of the BRICS was clear.

He further stated that BRICS can play an important role in shaping a multi -polar world. In this regard, he made four suggestions: one, BRICS New Development Bank must follow the demand -driven principle and long -term stability to give projects; Two, the group consider establishing a science and research reserves that can benefit global South countries; Three, attention should be paid to make the supply chain of important minerals safe and flexible; The statement said that four, the group should work for the AI ​​responsible – Given the concerns of the AI ​​regime, it should also give equal importance to promote innovation in the region, stated in the statement.
