Directors and Emmy Awards Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield turned himself in to authorities Tuesday to face child sex abuse charges New Mexico.
His arrest came after authorities albuquerque A warrant was issued for his arrest on Jan. 9 on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. The charges stem from allegations that Busfield inappropriately touched a young boy on the set of the TV series “The Cleaning Lady,” which he directed.
Gilbert Gallegos, spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said Bousfield has been booked by Albuquerque police.
The boy was 7 years old when he reported that Bousfield touched his private parts three or four times through his clothes, according to a criminal complaint filed by an investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department. Bousfield allegedly touched him five or six times when he was 8 years old, the complaint states.
The child was reportedly afraid to tell anyone because Busfield was the director and he feared he would be angry with him, the complaint states.
The boy’s twin brother told authorities he was touched by Bousfield but did not specify where. He said he didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to get in trouble.
Bousfield denied the allegations in an interview with authorities last fall as part of the investigation, the complaint states. He hinted that the boys’ mother was seeking revenge for her children being replaced in the series. He also said he might pick up the boys and tickle them because the set environment is so playful.
Bousfield’s attorneys and agents have not responded to emails seeking comment.
The twins’ mother – identified in court records only by her initials – spoke to child protective services The abuse occurred between November 2022 and the spring of 2024, according to the complaint.
The investigation began in November 2024, when investigators received a call from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. The boy’s parents went there on the recommendation of a law firm, according to the complaint.
According to the complaint, one of the boys was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. A social worker documented his condition, saying he had nightmares about Bousfield touching him.
“The Cleaning Lady” aired on Fox for four seasons, ending in 2025. The show is produced by Warner Bros., which conducted its own investigation into the abuse allegations but was unable to substantiate them, according to the complaint.
Busfield, who is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, is known for his roles in The West Wing, Dreamland and 30, the latter of which earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1991.
