Dinesh Karthik out or not? Sunil Gavaskar’s decision in RR vs RCB umpiring controversy, Kumar Sangakkara angry. cricket news

Yet another umpiring controversy rocks IPL 2024. This time it happened in the RR vs RCB IPL 2024 eliminator, with Dinesh Karthik’s alleged LBW at the center of it. After Rajasthan Royals reigned supreme to bowl out Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets, the onus was on Dinesh Karthik to take the latter to a respectable total. But in the 15th over, the batsman was given out LBW on the very first ball. Karthik was out LBW on the ball of Avesh Khan.

Full and straight delivery, which turned late and hit the pads. After much thought, Karthik took the help of DRS. It showed a big spike on ultras, but it was difficult to discern whether this was because the bat was hitting the pad or the ball. The ball was too close to the bat. RR players Avesh Khan and Ryan Parag looked surprised after Karthik was given not out. RR cricket director Kumar Sangakkara got angry and went to talk to the umpires.

When the replay was being played, Sunil Gavaskar’s decision was clear on air. “The bat hits the pad, not the ball. If you take an edge, you go straight up. You don’t go to the other end to confirm,” he said.

Kevin Pietersen said, “I don’t think the umpire got it right.”

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 eliminator match at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Wednesday.

The winner of the eliminator will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 in Chennai on Friday. RCB made it to the playoffs after winning their last six consecutive league matches, while RR reached the playoffs after four consecutive losses and having their last league game washed out due to rain in Guwahati.

After winning the toss, Samson said that Shimron Hetmyer is back in the playing eleven after recovering from injury and is hopeful that he will be given a chance when RR start chasing him.

He said, “Considering the conditions and the wicket, I would like to bowl first. There was dew last night. It’s all about mindset. I’m really excited to come and play in this amazing stadium.”

“There is great energy here. Looking at what cricket has taught us. It takes character and confidence when you have bad days. That’s been the challenging part – fitness and injuries,” he said.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis said he too would have liked to bowl first had the toss been in his favor and added that there were no changes in his team after their 27-run win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings.

“Watching last night’s game, the seam bowlers were getting help early on. It looks on the drier side with some fake grass on top. Our mentality has remained exactly the same. Focus on your skills, stay true to the way you want to play.”
