Diane Abbott slams Speaker Lindsay Hoyle after not being asked to speak at PMQs during racism debate

Diane Abbott MP has criticized Speaker Lindsay Hoyle for not calling on her to speak at Prime Minister’s Questions during this week’s debate on racism.

The MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington said she was “surprised” she had not been asked to speak because the debate was “mostly about racism and me”.

“Standing over 40 times. The speaker claimed he ran out of time,” she said. “The truth is, he can keep PMQ going if he wants to.”

It is the second time the MP, who was suspended by the parliamentary Labor Party last year, has sat in the House of Commons as an independent. Slammed the Speaker over the incident.

“I don’t know whose interests the speaker thinks he’s serving. But that’s not the interest of the House of Commons or of democracy,” she said on Wednesday.
