Advocates for people suffering from diabetes want to restructure the federal government what they see as a flawed pharmacier program.
Glenn Thibault, Executive Director, Government Affairs with Diabetes Canada, says the new government has an opportunity to improve.
The previous Trudeau government made a budget of $ 1.5 billion in five years for the first phase of the pharmacore, which covers the cost of some diabetes drugs and contraception for patients.
The government signed deals with BC, PEI, Manitoba and Yukon, which is set on one side for more than 60 percent of the money.
The Carney government is not committed to signing the remaining nine funding deals, saying that it is working with the provinces and regions to support them.
Thibeault says that diabetes canada wants to cover more drugs and says that future deals can target coverage for those who do not have private insurance.
