Drug Administration, Drugs and Food Control Organization, J&K today banned the use of synthetic food colors in the markets available in the markets.
According to an official statement released here, it was reported that the recent analytical reports of the National Food Laboratory Ghaziabad have revealed that some food samples of the prepared food. Kebab, biryani, pickle and chicken tikka, have been found to be unsafe due to the presence of synthetic food colors, such as carmisine, tartrogen and erythrocyne.
In the context of “Regulation 3.1.2 and Food Safety and Standards (Food Products’ standards and Food Commercial), the use of synthetic food colors in finished foods such as 2011, Wajwan, Biryani, Pickle, and other meat-based preparations (ready-to-Eats) is prohibited,” reads official communication.
The presence of such prohibited synthetic colors pose a serious risk for public health. In the context of Section 59 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, such violations are punishable and can attract imprisonment for a term that can increase by three months, and at the same time that it can extend to ₹ 3,00,000 (three lakhs).
“All Food Business Operators (FBOs) are engaged in the manufacture, preparation, processing, sale or service of prepared foods, especially meat-based products such as kebabs, vazwan, biryani, chicken tikka, pickle, etc., are advised to avoid the use of synthetic food colors in any finished foods.”
Meanwhile, the D&FCO has demanded the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure that only safe, nutritious food reaches the consumer.
