New Delhi, Nov 17 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid tribute to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal, one of the leading figures of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement, on his death anniversary.

In a post on Twitter, HM Shah wrote, “Ashok Singhal ji, the founder of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement, dedicated his entire life to religion, nation and culture. He remained engaged in the service of self-culture and self-confidence throughout his life, renouncing happiness, facilities and glory. On the death anniversary of Ashok Singhal ji, I remember him and salute his sacrifice and penance.”

Known as one of the most influential architects of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Singhal remains an iconic figure in the cultural and ideological history of the Sangh Parivar.

Union minister and BJP national president JP Nadda also posted a detailed tribute.

He wrote, “On the death anniversary of the most revered Ashok Singhal ji, the pinnacle of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, who gave a new direction to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement, I pay my respects to him. Your life is a unique symbol of the resolve to protect the Sanatan culture and protect the nation. Your contribution in restoring the cultural glory of the nation is inspiring. You are always remembered for your unique works and efforts in the service of the motherland and in protecting the faith.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid his tribute and wrote, “I pay my respects to the respected top leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Shri Ashok Singhal ji on his memorial day.” His brief message underlined Singhal’s enduring stature within the broader nationalist movement.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also joined national leaders in remembering the veteran VHP leader.

In his post on Twitter, CM Yogi wrote, “On the death anniversary of Rev. Ashok Singhal ji, the founder of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement and former International President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, we pay our humble tribute to him! His entire life was dedicated to patriotism, piety and the revival of Indian culture. Inspired by the sacrifice, penance and determination of Rev. Singhal ji, we are continuously moving forward on the path of protecting national interests and eternal values.”

Ashok Singhal, who died in 2015, was synonymous with the decades-long movement that ultimately led to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Senior leaders of the BJP and Sangh Parivar continue to invoke his role as a guiding force whose ideological commitments shaped modern Indian political and cultural discourse.
