denver broncos Co-captain and leading tackler, Alex Singleton undergoes surgery testicular cancer On Friday, less than 24 hours after delivering a standout performance with nine tackles in a 10-7 win against las vegas raiders,

Remarkably, Singleton played the game only four days after receiving his cancer diagnosis.

He is likely to miss this weekend’s important matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs (5-4), but is optimistic about returning to action in the coming weeks. The Broncos are set for a bye week following their encounter with the Chiefs.

“Our No. 1 priority is Alex’s health and well-being, and we are grateful the cancer was caught early,” the Broncos said in a message posted on Twitter.

Singleton informed his teammates and coaches during Monday’s team meeting that he had undergone surgery for testicular cancer, which he was diagnosed with a week before the regular season. nfl Drug tests revealed abnormalities.

Following his announcement to the team, Singleton spoke to reporters on a conference call.

He explained that he was able to split his cancer diagnosis and play against the Raiders a few days later because “football has always been an outlet for me.” His nine tackles on Thursday night contributed to the Broncos’ 8-2 record and their seventh consecutive win.

He had surgery the next morning to remove the tumor and confirmed that a CT scan showed that the cancer had not spread.

Singleton commented, “The shorter week honestly made it better.” “On Tuesday, Wednesday, I had to immerse myself in football and… put it out of my mind as much as I could because we weren’t going to know anything until after the surgery – and we still don’t know everything 100%.

“So, the biggest thing for me was how to get my mind off of it, so football was the best thing to do that. Playing on Thursday nights in our Throwback I was able to block out everything that was going on in my mind.”

Singleton expressed gratitude for the tremendous support he has received from his teammates, coaches, management and ownership, saying, “I feel like I’m letting them down by missing a game. That’s how I feel about it. It’s a huge blow and such news to me. So, just to have the support and just the love from them means a lot.”

Moving forward, Singleton intends to advocate for early detection of testicular cancer.

Singleton confirmed, “Throughout this journey I’m going to continue to talk about it and share it with you guys and everyone else, just knowing that there shouldn’t be a huge stigma behind it.”

“Yes, we can spread the message to get everyone screened and tested. Don’t be afraid of the doctor, because I have been doing this for a long time.”

Linebacker Justin Strnad, who will deputize for Singleton, commented that Singleton playing the game with the diagnosis “doesn’t surprise me.”

He added, “He’s the ultimate competitor, the ultimate team player. He had knee surgery last year. He’s been through a lot in this league and it’s obviously a big hurdle, but he’s going to overcome it and we’ll all be here to help him through it.”

The Broncos are already without star cornerback Pat Surtain II, who is recovering from a pectoral muscle strain and will also miss this weekend’s game.

Singleton usually wears a ‘green dot’ on his helmet, which facilitates communication with coaches, so his absence will require many tactical adjustments.
