Meet Dalia Attar, the Maryland State Senator who was recently accused of some pretty disgusting allegations.

Of course I should note that he is still innocent until proven guilty, but these are the charges:

Baltimore City state Senator Dalia Attar has been arrested on federal extortion and conspiracy charges, according to court documents obtained by FOX45 News.

Attar, a Democrat representing Baltimore’s 41st District who took office in January after being appointed to fill a vacant seat — now faces serious charges related to the alleged extortion scheme, including abusing her political position and coordinating with others to solicit money or favors.

His arrest comes amid a series of corruption scandals that have rocked Maryland politics. Federal investigators have not released full details of the indictment or potential punishment, and there has been no word on whether she will resign or be suspended.

Baltimore City state senator Dalia Attar has been arrested and charged with federal extortion and conspiracy, according to court documents.

Attar, a Democrat from Baltimore City who represents District 41, made history by becoming the first Orthodox Jewish woman to win a seat in the Maryland Senate, which she took after a vacancy in January.

On October 23, he was charged with eight counts.

The indictment alleges that Attar, 35, planted tracking and recording devices on his two rivals in an effort to silence them, including recording them in bed together.

Then, Attar threatened to release footage of the two victims “in bed” unless they met his demands not to speak out against him publicly.

Court documents state that both victims were a political consultant whom they filmed in bed with a married man.

Additionally, Attar’s co-defendants, Joseph Attar and Kalman Finkelstein, were also taken into federal custody.

The indictment states that Attar worked with four unnamed co-conspirators to carry out the plan.

During Attar’s 2018 election run, he worked with the political consultant, but the two soon parted ways due to disagreements.

Attar reportedly feared that the consultant was “trying to screw me”, and was concerned about flyers being issued to the Jewish community about his voting record.

Prosecutors said the plot began in January 2020 when the consultant stayed in an apartment that belonged to Finkelstein’s family, and while she was away the policeman and Attar’s brother broke into the unit.

Then, the two men allegedly installed cameras disguised as smoke detectors inside, and a tracking device on the consultant’s car.

In March 2021, Attar reportedly threatened to release the videos to his brother of the consultant and the married man unless the consultant would ‘leave Dalya alone.’

Later that year, in November 2021, the indictment alleges that Attar sent a message to his brother and one of the unnamed co-conspirators, saying “If the video actually exists, it would be really helpful now.”

Local journalist Pamela Wood says she has covered many criminal cases over the years but none like this one.
