New Delhi, October 8 (IANS) Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh met Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday. Radhakrishnan, who also serves as the ex-officio Chancellor of the University, held extensive discussions with the Vice Chancellor at the Vice President’s Secretariat.

The VC presented a comprehensive account of the current status of the University and the initiatives taken for its development. Singh also highlighted the illustrious legacy of Delhi University, which has stood as an icon of higher education in India for more than a century. He also emphasized on the growing national and international stature of the institute in various academic and institutional parameters.

The presentation covered key aspects such as growing student enrolment, significant increase in women participation as well as the university’s progress in quality teaching-learning processes, cutting-edge research and modern infrastructure – both physical and digital.

The VC also highlighted the recent developments including the establishment of new campuses and colleges. He also highlighted better ICT infrastructure, library resources and hostel facilities. Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh also shared information about promoting inclusive education.

The Vice President expressed deep satisfaction at the overall progress and functioning of the University. He appreciated the remarkable historical contribution of DU towards the nation. He said that Delhi University remains an icon of academic excellence and social leadership.

Importantly, the Vice President stressed the urgent need to create awareness and take proactive steps to combat addiction among the youth, especially against banned substances like drugs and tobacco.

The Vice President encouraged DU to take a leadership role in launching a sustained campaign across its colleges and campuses that aims to nurture a healthy, addiction-free student community. He said such efforts are necessary not only for academic excellence but also to ensure a high quality of life for students after graduation.

VP Radhakrishnan also underlined the important role of sports in student development. He advised the Vice Chancellor to ensure that adequate sports infrastructure is provided on campuses and to promote a culture that encourages student participation in sports and physical activities.

“Participating in sports expands the horizons of thought and inculcates a spirit of healthy competition, which is important for shaping responsible and capable citizens of India,” he said.

Turning to research, the Vice President expressed his appreciation for the ongoing research initiatives of the University and called upon the teaching community to engage in research that is relevant, impactful and in line with contemporary societal needs. He also urged the faculty to mentor and inspire students to consider research not just as a pursuit of knowledge but as a viable and noble career path.

Several key findings of the discussion are expected to have a significant impact on the future trajectory of Delhi University in areas ranging from student welfare and academic excellence to infrastructure development and research innovation.
