New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) Delhi Tourism has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an online ticketing platform in an effort to establish the capital as a major global hub for live entertainment and music events, Art, Culture and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra said on Friday.
Mishra said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented a visionary vision for a “concert economy” and “live entertainment” and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is committed to taking this vision forward.
He emphasized that this transformation cannot be achieved by the government alone and requires active collaboration with the industry. The signing of this MoU is an important step in that direction.
Mishra further said that Delhi will now provide a conducive environment to host the world’s biggest events. He expressed gratitude to Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Sports Authority of India for helping in removing hurdles related to venue rental.
Bansuri Swaraj, MP from New Delhi parliamentary constituency, senior officials of ticketing platforms, Delhi Police, representatives of EEMA (Event and Entertainment Management Association) and other senior dignitaries were also present at the media briefing.
Mishra said, this partnership is a historic step towards establishing Delhi as a leading global hub for live entertainment and music events.
He said the target is to add at least Rs 3,000 crore to Delhi’s economy through live entertainment and concert economy in the next two financial years.
“Steps will be taken through policy reforms, environment clearance, single window clearance and removal of VIP culture,” he said.
Mishra said that Delhi is not only the political capital but also the heart of India’s culture, civilization and history. The city symbolizes diverse global cultures, and aims to strengthen, enhance and celebrate this cultural mosaic.
The Minister called on the events industry, artists, designers and planners to be part of this change.
He said that the face of developed India 2047 will be seen from Delhi and New Delhi will lead this journey.
He said, “The city is developing rapidly, and new spaces, modern infrastructure and a beautiful riverfront will redefine the identity of Delhi in the next two to three years. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Gupta, the Delhi government will ensure full support for the industry.”
Swaraj said that Delhi is not just the capital of the country but also the heart of India and New Delhi parliamentary constituency is its heartbeat.
He emphasized that under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi is emerging as a hub of “concert economy”, creating new opportunities in employment, innovation and creativity for the youth.
In the coming months, more than 30 national and international events have been planned in Delhi, which will contribute to realizing the cultural vision of ‘Developed India 2047’, an official said.
