Delhi to get a new drainage master plan

New Delhi, 19 September (IANS) A new drainage master plan for Delhi will be unveiled on Friday, which is part of the plan during the fortnight long ‘Seva Pakhwada’, which is being celebrated by the Raja Gupta government to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The master plan will be launched by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal at an event chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, two days after PM Modi’s birthday on 17 September.

The Master Plan promises to handle rainwater and provide solutions for upgrading the city’s drainage system to reduce the collection of rainwater in low age areas and roads.

Earlier, the Delhi government and the opposition AAP were engaged in an oral duel over rainwater drainage during the AAP monsoon.

While the authorities claimed that the drainage system, due to its age, struggles to handle the rainfall above 50 mm a day, the AAP accused the government of low to reduce waterlogging.

The government claimed that every example of water collection could not be described as a waterfall. A statement said, “When the rainwater goes away in a few minutes, it cannot be called waterlogging. The waterlogging refers to examples where the water does not go away for 4-5 hours,” a statement says.

In July, Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh announced that a new master plan was worked to rebuild the 50 -year -old drainage system of the city. The previous drainage master plan was prepared in 1976.

Delhi’s drainage system is fed by three basins: Najafgarh, Barpullah and Trans Yamuna. By July, the government had received a draft report suggesting the drainage improvement in the Najafgarh basin, but the report on the other two basins was still waiting.

Next to the monsoon, CM Gupta ordered the construction of an integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), to work as a central center for monitoring and management of various cities, including traffic, water supply and hygiene.

CM Gupta reviewed the situation and said that “our purpose is not only to find a temporary solution, but to bring long-term and concrete improvements in the infrastructure of Delhi. Each department has been given clear instructions in mission mode to work on these issues and adopt the result-oriented approach.”

He said, “We want to get rid of problems related to waterlogging, traffic or safety to the people of Delhi. Our government is committed to develop Delhi as a safe, accessible and clean capital, where citizens can get better facilities at every level,” he said.

Efforts to combat water logging were highlighted, the Chief Minister said: “Currently, 194 waterlogging areas have been identified. These are under various departments such as PWD, NHAI, DMRC, DDA, MCD, NDMC, and DCB.

He said that ICCC will integrate data from various sources to provide real -time status awareness and support decision making for city officials. This will play an important role in emergency response by providing real -time information on events and coordinating the efforts of various departments.
