New Delhi, October 31 (IANS) In a major action against food adulteration, the Eastern Range-1 of Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted an illegal factory manufacturing adulterated ‘Desi Ghee’ in Bawana Industrial Area. Officials gave this information on Friday.

In the raid conducted on Thursday, two people were arrested and more than 3,700 liters of fake desi ghee along with raw material, machinery and fake packaging material were seized from the premises.

According to the police, acting on credible intelligence, a team led by Inspector Lichhman along with other personnel conducted the raid on October 29 under the supervision of ACP Sunil Srivastava.

The factory was found operating under different brand labels and producing adulterated ghee using refined oils and non-dairy ingredients.

On reaching the industrial unit, the police found illegal production going on. Two people – identified as Satendra (44), resident of Sonipat, Haryana, and Parveen (29), resident of Rohtak – were allegedly caught operating the machinery and packaging setup.

Detailed investigation resulted in the recovery of approximately 2,500 liters of packed adulterated ghee and approximately 1,200 liters of raw ghee.

The police also seized large quantities of refined oil, steel mixing vessels, heating units, electronic weighing machines, tetra-pack sealing machines, plastic jars and pouches ranging from 100 ml to 5 liters and rolls with fake labels and wrappers.

Police said the illegal unit had been operating for about a year. The alleged mastermind Satendra used to sell cake in Sonipat before entering into illegal business. Parveen, a former auto-rickshaw driver, joins him to operate the factory and mix the adulterated substances.

According to the police, a case has been registered in the Crime Branch under sections 274/275/318(2)/61(2)/3(5) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) for manufacturing and selling dangerous adulterated food products and using counterfeit packaging.

DCP Crime Branch Vikram Singh said, “This case pertains to manufacturing and sale of adulterated food items posing a threat to public health, use of wrong labels and violation of food safety standards.”
