New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) The CBI has arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Delhi Police for accepting a bribe of Rs 2.4 lakh from an East Delhi resident in a case related to verification of his property documents. An official gave this information on Monday.
ASI Patil Kumar was posted at Jyoti Nagar police station when he demanded the bribe, the officer said in a statement.
The CBI registered a case against the policeman on Sunday after property owner Sanjay Kumar Sharma lodged a formal complaint.
Sharma was involved in a case in the Karkardooma court requiring verification of documents of his house, B-302, Meet Nagar, Main Wazirabad Road, which was given to him by his father through a will.
He said the court had directed ASI Patil Kumar to file a report after verification of the property documents.
Sharma said the ASI called him to the police station last week and demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to file a favorable report in the court.
The complaint, filed on November 8, said the accused threatened to file an adverse report against the complainant if the bribe was not paid.
After the complainant convinced the ASI to reduce the bribe amount, the CBI laid a trap on Sunday and caught Patil Kumar red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2.40 lakh as part payment from the complainant.
A case was registered against the policeman after Sharma’s allegations were confirmed by the CBI.
“The allegations mentioned in the complaint were verified in the presence of independent witness Roshan Kumar, Inspector, Food Supply Officer, Circle-02, Burari, New Delhi,” the verification report of a CBI officer said.
The report said, “Prima facie, verification has revealed a demand of bribe of Rs 15 lakh from Sanjay Kumar Sharma on behalf of ASI Patil Kumar, PS Jyoti Nagar in the name of favoring the complainant in a court case related to his property.”
Recommending registration of an FIR against the ASI, a CBI officer said, “The facts and circumstances mentioned above, prima facie, constitute criminal offense under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) on the part of the suspect ASI Patil Kumar, PS Jyoti Nagar. Accordingly, it is recommended that a regular case may be registered against ASI Patil Kumar, PS Jyoti Nagar Is.”
Superintendent of Police, CBI, IB Pendhari accepted the recommendation and approved registration of FIR No. RC0032025A0061 against ASI Patil Kumar.
