The 21-year-old woman, pursuing B.Sc. in Forensic Science, her ex-boyfriend and his associate, all residents of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested, he said.
A police source said, “The woman, who was in a live-in relationship with the victim, conspired with two men to kill him and later set his body on fire so that it could accidentally catch fire.”
The deceased Ramkesh Meena lived on the fourth floor of a building in Gandhi Vihar.
“On October 6, police received information about a fire incident in the flat due to an AC explosion. Fire tenders extinguished the fire and recovered the badly burnt body from the room. Initially, a case was registered under relevant provisions and investigation was initiated,” the source said.
CCTV footage revealed that on the night of 5 and 6 October, two men with their faces covered entered the building and at around 2.57am a woman was seen leaving with one of them. A fire broke out soon after they left, the source said.
“During the investigation, call detail records of the woman revealed her presence near the crime scene, which aroused suspicion. Several raids were conducted in Moradabad and she was arrested on October 18. She confessed to the crime and gave the names of her two accomplices,” he said.
After this his two associates were also arrested.
The woman told investigators that Meena had recorded obscene videos of her and refused to delete them. Sources said she shared this with her ex-boyfriend, who became enraged and decided to eliminate Meena.
Police sources said the trio strangled Meena before pouring oil, ghee and liquor on her body. The woman’s ex-boyfriend, who worked as an LPG distributor, opened the valve of the gas cylinder and set it on fire, causing an explosion. They then ran away with the victim’s hard disk, laptop and other items.
Sources said that the police have recovered a hard disk, a trolley bag, the victim’s shirt and two mobile phones from the accused. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
