Winter weather conditions threatened to cause delays and cancellations at Indira Gandhi International Airport, forcing airport authorities and airlines to issue advisories for passengers.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s Sameer mobile application data, Delhi’s overall air quality index (AQI) stood at 384 as of 7:05 am.
Only 38 out of 40 stations were functioning in the national capital. Places like Anand Vihar (452), Ashok Vihar (411), Chandni Chowk (419), ITO (426), and Dwarka Sector 8 (414) recorded AQI in the “severe” category.
Flight disruption at Delhi airport
Delhi airport said flight operations are being conducted under CAT III conditions due to dense fog. In a passenger advisory, the airport cautioned that such operations could slow departures and arrivals, potentially leading to delays or cancellations.
It said ground staff were deployed to terminals to assist passengers and help manage movement during the disruption. Passengers were advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for latest updates on flight schedules.
Indigo informed about possible disruptions
IndiGo issued several advisories highlighting the foggy conditions not only in Delhi but at many airports across North India.
The airline warned that if low visibility persists, flight operations may be affected as the day progresses. According to News18, it said teams are closely monitoring weather conditions and making operational adjustments where necessary to maintain safety and minimize disruption.
IndiGo said that the effect of cold wind and dense fog continues at Delhi and Hindon airports. It said that due to fluctuations in visibility that have already caused schedule changes, operations are expected to be slower than normal while conditions remain uncertain. According to News18, the airline said that the ground teams are prioritizing safety and strictly following visibility norms.
Air India canceled morning flights
Air India also cautioned passengers about possible disruptions, citing dense fog and low visibility forecast in Delhi and parts of northern India. The airline said flight schedules could be affected, causing delays across its wider network.
To minimize inconvenience, Air India said it planned to cancel some morning flights most sensitive to fog-related disruption. Passengers were informed in advance to help avoid long waits at airports. According to News18, the airline said airport teams will be available to assist passengers in case of delays, diversions or cancellations.
