New Delhi, September 16 (IANS) Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Tuesday led a pledge-work ceremony to mark World Ozone Day and confirm the government’s commitment to environmental protection.
He attended the Delhi Secretariat by senior officials of the Environment Department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
Speaking on the occasion, Sirsa said, “It is a collective responsibility to protect the ozone layer that we give for our future generations. Today, on the world’s ozone day, we move to scientific understanding towards decisive global action.”
Sirsa said that Delhi has been leading to exclude ozone-displaying substances, and we will continue leading efforts in climate action and improvement of air quality.
“I appeal to every citizen of Delhi to join this reason. Create a conscious option, adopt environmentally friendly practices, and contribute to a healthy, durable planet,” he said.
A pledge was taken with a workshop organized to sensitize the Environment Department and DPCC officials.
The event held at the Delhi Secretariat was aligned with this year’s theme, “Science to Global Action”, to sign the Montreal Protocol in 1987. It symbolized a fresh commitment to protect the stratosphere ozone layer and promote permanent lifestyle.
Sirsa said, “Everything we need is a fresh and fresh resolution; then a better tomorrow is possible.”
As part of the incident, the minister and all the participating officials took a serious vow to protect the environment.
He also broadcast the pledge for Ozone Day, which was read: “I pledge to protect the ozone layer to avoid harmful products such as CFC-based air-conditioner and refrigerator, Halon and carbon tetrachloride-based fire extinguishers.
Sirsa highlighted the active role of Delhi in successfully implementing the Montreal Protocol and successfully implementing the readiness to adopt the Kigali amendment.
He emphasized that the government is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness through schools eco-clubs, public campaigns and community engagement to ensure a cleaner and greenery future for the national capital.
