A 35-year-old man was killed on Tuesday in southwest Delhi’s Kusumpur Pahadi area after his friend had his throat slit over an unpaid debt of Rs 1,500, police said.

They said the accused Sanjay has been arrested. “The Vasant Vihar police station received a message at 5.42 am and the caller told the police that his brother had been murdered with his throat slit,” a senior police officer said.

He added that the victim’s body lay in a pool of blood and his throat had been slit with a sharp object. “The crime squad and the forensic science team were called in at the spot. CCTV footage around the spot was examined. An FIR under Section 302 (murder) was registered and investigation has been launched,” the police officer said. Police said investigations led to the arrest of Sanjay, a suspect at the same location.

“During interrogation, Sanjay admitted to killing the victim, identified as Ashwani. The accused told the police that he and the victim were drinking in the parking lot. At around 1.30 am, he demanded Rs 1,500 from the deceased.”

Police said the deceased refused the same request and an altercation ensued between the two. “After the victim refused to pay, the accused broke the bottle and slit the deceased’s throat.

He then hid the victim’s phone near a bin and returned home. ” they said. Police said the accused changed into slippers first and then put on shoes to return to the crime scene.
