New Delhi, June 12: Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail argument of Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah in a terrorist funding case.
On July 7, 2023, a bench of Justices Naveen Chawla and Shalinder Kaur rejected Shah’s appeal against the lower court’s verdict, which had earlier denied him bail.
“The appeal is dismissed,” the bench said. A detailed order will be issued later.
Earlier in August 2023, the High Court had asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to respond to Shah’s bail appeal.
Shah’s lawyer argued that there was no concrete evidence against him and he should be granted bail. The appeal also mentions that Shah has been in jail for the last four years and the lawsuit is moving very slowly. Out of over 400 witnesses, only 15 have been examined in four years.
Appeal said that the lower court order was unfair and against the evidence submitted.
The NIA had registered a case against 12 people including Shah in 2017, in which allegedly to fund stone-ravaging, damage public property and collect money to plan to wage war against the Government of India.
Shabir Shah was arrested on 4 June 2019. In March 2022, he was accused of raising money and creating a conspiracy to create unrest. (PTI)
