New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS) In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested two wanted and ‘desperate’ criminals accused in the violent attack and rioting incident in North Delhi earlier this year. Delhi Police gave this information on Tuesday.
The arrest came after an intensive operation led by Intelligence and Surveillance Cell (ISC) Inspector Satendra Poonia and his team.
According to the police, the attack took place on the night of July 18, 2025, in Bhalswa Dairy area, where four identified men, along with several unidentified associates, allegedly attacked neighboring family members with knives and sticks with the intention of murder.
Five people were injured in the attack. After committing the crime the attackers fled from the spot.
“Five people were injured in the attack, while the attackers fled the spot after committing the crime,” police said in their press note.
A case (FIR no. 486/25) under several sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) was registered at PS Bhalswa Dairy.
During the investigation, the police identified Mohammad Mumtaz Ansari as the main conspirator behind the crime.
While seven adult accused and three juveniles were already nabbed, the crime branch continued to track the remaining suspects.
In a coordinated effort involving technical surveillance and human intelligence, a police team led by Inspectors Poonia and Sohan Lal traced and apprehended Mumtaz Ansari and his associate Shamim from Indralok area.
Ansari, 29, a resident of Mojiwala Bagh in Azadpur and listed as a “bad character” of PS Bhalswa Dairy, is a habitual offender, police said.
He was released on bail in June 2025 and has been named in several cases in North Delhi police stations over the past few years, including attempt to murder, conspiracy to murder, weapons possession, rioting and theft.
He also had a non-bailable warrant in earlier cases registered at PS Mahendra Park and PS Model Town.
His co-accused Shamim, 50, also a resident of Azadpur, was also arrested along with him.
During interrogation, Ansari reportedly confessed to planning and instigating the attack.
Police said further investigation and legal action is underway.
