New Delhi, October 6 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday that the government has planned to contact the Supreme Court to allow the use of certified green crackers to celebrate Diwali in the national capital.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to take measures to check air pollution in the city, CM Gupta said, “It will also be ensured that all green firecrackers are manufactured only by authorized institutions and have been certified and tested by competent and relevant departments.”
“The government believes that a balance between public emotions and environmental protection is necessary. The purpose of this initiative is to further strengthen our commitment to pollution control, respecting the traditions,” he said.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, “Our aim is – with a Diwali happiness, with a clean and safe environment.”
He said, “Respecting the sentiments of the residents of Delhi, the Delhi government will request the Supreme Court to allow the use of certified green firecrackers on this Diwali.”
He wrote on X, “The government believes that balance between public emotions and environmental protection is necessary. The purpose of this initiative is to further strengthen our commitment to pollution control by respecting traditions.”
The Delhi government is completely committed to environmental protection and pollution control with complete dedication, he said, “The Supreme Court will be assured that the Delhi government will fully follow all the guidelines and standards of the court.”
The Chief Minister’s support to approve the use of green crackers on Diwali comes amid the debate on the contribution of fireworks to increase air pollutants versus arguments that they are a more targeted, minor contributor than other year -old sources.
Critics of firecrackers restraint argue that Diwali fireworks are sacrificed, other prominent, year -long pollution sources. They indicate agricultural stubble burning, industrial emissions and pollution of vehicles as more important long -term contributors, especially in cities such as Delhi.
