New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday wished citizens a happy Diwali and called upon them to celebrate the festival in a safe and eco-friendly manner by using green crackers.
“Let us resolve to increase love and brotherhood with each other on this festival,” he said in a message.
The Chief Minister urged people to use only green crackers to save Delhi from pollution and to light lamps in the traditional manner, give priority to rangoli and distribute sweets to spread the message of happiness.
He said that it is the government’s commitment to protect the environment of the country’s capital.
Earlier, he visited Vasudev Ghat on the banks of Yamuna near Kashmiri Gate to inspect the preparations for the upcoming Chhath Mahaparva and directed the officials to upgrade the facilities for the devotees, an official statement said.
During his visit, he reviewed the ongoing works related to cleanliness, leveling, lighting, security and facilities for devotees and issued necessary instructions to the officials, the official statement said.
The Chief Minister said that the Delhi Government is fully committed to ensure that this year’s Chhath festival is celebrated in a grander, safer and more organized manner than ever before.
Development and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra was also present during the inspection.
The Chief Minister said that the water of Yamuna has become clearer and cleaner than before, there is no trace of foam or any other type of pollution in it.
He said that cleaning and leveling work on the ghats is being done continuously with JCB machines.
The Chief Minister said that all ministers, MLAs and officials of the Delhi government are personally monitoring the preparations at the ground level. He said that the government is carrying out cleaning and leveling work on war footing at all the ghats from Palla to Kalindi Kunj.
The Chief Minister remarked that this year’s Chhath festival will be special and memorable for the people of Delhi.
“Just as this year’s Diwali is being celebrated in an unprecedented manner, the Chhath festival will also set a new standard for grandeur and orderliness in the capital,” he said.
According to him, just as Delhi has established a new identity through the successful organization of Kanwar Yatra, Ramlila, Durga Puja and Diwali, similarly during Chhath Puja, the residents of the city will once again experience a “changed Delhi” that reflects the confluence of faith, culture and cleanliness.
