New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) A day after a car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, investigating agencies are scanning over 1,000 CCTV footage clips. According to Delhi Police sources, CCTV footage of many areas around Red Fort metro station is being examined. Sources said on Tuesday that preliminary investigation into the car blast indicated that it could have been a suicide attack, aimed at causing maximum damage. The blast occurred on Monday evening when a Haryana-registered Hyundai i20 parked near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station exploded, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens. High alert has been issued in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Mumbai and security has been tightened in crowded public places and religious places. Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect’s motive was to carry out the blast after learning that the Faridabad module had been busted. According to sources, realizing that arrest was imminent, the suspect allegedly planned a suicide attack to cause maximum damage and avoid being caught. The investigating agencies are also keeping an eye on social media activity and collecting dump data from multiple locations across Delhi. According to police sources, dump data is being extracted from all the mobile phones active in and around the Red Fort area. This data can help identify phone numbers and communication links linked to car bombings. Officials said dump data from the Red Fort parking area and surrounding areas is being analyzed, as investigators believe the individuals in the car may have communicated shortly before the blast, making these phone records particularly important. Sources said that a team of 500 officers has been formed to investigate all aspects of the blast. These include officers from Intelligence Bureau, NIA, Delhi Police and many other security agencies. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured strict action against those behind the deadly blast. He said that Indian agencies will expose the entire conspiracy and ensure that the criminals will not be spared. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also assured the nation that those responsible for the blast near the Red Fort metro station would be brought to justice and “will not be spared under any circumstances”. –IANS JK/DPB
