New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Security forces have demolished the house of Dr Omar Mohammed in Kashmir’s Pulwama, who carried out a car blast near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort.
A controlled explosion was used to destroy the house during the overnight operation. This action has taken place amid high alert and intensified action against the terrorist module related to the Red Fort blast.
The investigation into the November 10 blast, which killed 12 people and injured several, revealed that Omar, a doctor from Al-Falah University in Faridabad, was driving the Hyundai i20 car that exploded near a traffic signal on Netaji Subhash Marg. His presence in the vehicle was confirmed when DNA samples recovered from the blast site matched those collected from his mother.
New CCTV footage has also emerged showing Dr Omar Mohammed driving the i20 car in the heart of Connaught Place, Delhi, about five hours before it headed towards the Red Fort area, where the blast ultimately took place.
According to police sources, Omar was seen driving the explosive-laden vehicle around the Outer Circle of Connaught Place at around 2.05 pm, after which he drove towards Mayur Vihar and eventually around the Red Fort.
The investigating agencies on Thursday found another vehicle, a Maruti Brezza, which was initially missing. Officials are also investigating why the terror module was using multiple cars. The i20 exploded near the Red Fort, while an EcoSport belonging to Dr Omar Mohammed was recovered in Faridabad.
Sources have indicated that the module was planning a series of car bombings, but their plans were exposed before further attacks could be carried out.
The powerful blast occurred at around 6.52 pm on November 10, causing panic in the national capital and triggering immediate security responses. The blast occurred close to one of India’s most iconic heritage sites, raising serious concerns about a breach in the high-security zone around the Red Fort.
Following the incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) formally took over the investigation from the Delhi Police Special Cell. NIA officials cordoned off the area and conducted a detailed forensic examination of the debris, including explosive remains, vehicle fragments and digital evidence, to unearth the entire network behind the attack.
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed that the incident be investigated with “utmost urgency” to quickly identify all the “perpetrators” and “sponsors” and bring them to justice. The Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in honor of the innocent people killed and described the November 10 blast as “a heinous terrorist incident carried out by anti-national forces”.
Also, on Thursday, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) suspended the membership of Al-Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad with immediate effect.
The purpose of demolishing Omar’s house in Kashmir is to send a message to those supporting terrorist activities. Earlier, similar action was taken against those involved in the Pahalgam terrorist attack case.
