New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) The Delhi BJP on Sunday attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for nominating a male candidate for the by-election in the MCD ward reserved for women and released an old video on social media highlighting its attempt to defame the Rekha Gupta government.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that AAP announced its list of candidates for the by-elections of 12 wards of Delhi Municipal Corporation, and the name of Keshav Chauhan for Dichaun Kalan ward reserved for women is shocking.

The BJP spokesperson also attacked the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for fielding a candidate with alleged criminal background from Vinod Nagar ward.

He said that from Vinod Nagar ward, AAP has fielded former councilor Geeta Rawat, who was earlier arrested on alleged bribery charges.

The BJP spokesperson said the day proved to be a Sunday of scams for AAP and took credit for exposing three dark sides of its leaders.

He said AAP’s third scam pertains to its leaders posting an old interview of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on social media to project the current Rekha Gupta-led BJP government in the city in a bad image.

Kapoor said the LG’s old comment was made on January 12, when AAP was in power under the leadership of then Chief Minister Atishi, but was posted on social media on Sunday.

He said the LG’s comment in January was meant to point out the incompetence of the then AAP government, but AAP wanted to defame the present BJP government by distorting facts.

“However, we also exposed the deception which made today’s Sunday a black Sunday for the Aam Aadmi Party,” Kapoor said.

Referring to AAP’s mistake of nominating a person for MCD’s Dichaun Kalan ward, Kapoor said, “While AAP is often quick to accuse others of promoting dynasty politics, in this case, perhaps, they wanted to give the ticket to Chouhan’s wife, but instead, they directly listed Chouhan’s name – which clearly reveals their fondness for family-based politics.”

Similarly, due to lack of candidates, the AAP leadership was forced to give ticket from Vinod Nagar in 2021-22 to Geeta Rawat, who had served a jail term on bribery charges. He said, this clearly shows that you no longer believe in honest politics.
