Delegation of J&K Students Association called CM advisor on harassment of livestock transporters in Punjab

Members of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association and a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association, led by Nasir Khoumimi, the national convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, met with the advisor of the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Kashmir and Kashmir and Kashmir and Kashmir, for Punjab Kashmir. The delegation highlighted how this continuous harassment has severely affected the livelihood of hundreds of dealers and transporters and highlighted systemic misuse at major outposts in Punjab.

During the meeting, the delegation said that the Kashmiri truck truck is being forcibly stopped at various transit points in Punjab, blackmailed under the guise of animal welfare enforcement, and slapped with a fabricated FIR. Truck drivers, often stuck for hours in scorching heat, are forced to die their livestock due to prolonged delays, resulting in tremendous financial loss and emotional crisis. The delegation alleged that this daylight was being done by local contractors with silent approval of some officers, which promotes an atmosphere of chaos and fear with highways.

Khouhmi informed the advisor that the Jammu and Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association has been forced to suspend livestock transport from outside states, repeated by truck drivers and due to illegal oppression, forced recovery, and intimidation, especially due to Shambu and Madhopur checkpuint in Punjab.

The delegation stated, “This ongoing harassment has severely disrupted the important mutton supply chain in the Kashmir Valley.” “Daily loss now exceeds ₹ 50,000, directly affects thousands of livelihoods in Jammu and Kashmir, especially dependent on livestock and meat trade.”

In response, advisor Nasir Sogami assured the delegation that the issue would be taken at the highest level. He informed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will personally intervene and extend the matter with his Punjab counterpart. The advisor assured Swift action to eliminate the forced recovery of this mafia-style, ensuring the cancellation of false FIRs, facilitated the release of seized trucks and livestock, and included them all.

The delegation stressed that Kashmir’s economy, dignity and food security could not be allowed to hunt for uncontrolled corruption and systematic exploitation on Punjab highways. He urged both Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab governments to take coordinated action to protect the rights, security and livelihood of Kashmiri transporters and traders.
