The man accused of shooting and killing a Delaware State Police trooper at a DMV office let customers leave and then fired at officers before being killed, investigators said Friday.
State Police Cpl. Matthew Snook was working an overtime assignment at a New Castle DMV reception desk Tuesday afternoon when Rahman Rose, posing as a customer, approached him from behind and shot him with a handgun, state police said in a news release.
Rose, 44, of WilmingtonThe trooper continued firing, investigators said, who pushed the DMV employee out of the way and told him to run. Rose then allowed the customers to leave, but as they approached the building, he fired several rounds at law enforcement.
A New Castle County police officer shot Rose from a window outside the building. Rose later died in a hospital.
Snook, known as “Ty”, was a 10-year veteran of the state police force. On Wednesday, community members lined the streets and displayed messages of gratitude as a procession of soldiers, police officers and firefighters carried his body from the state medical examiner’s office to the funeral home.
Superintendent of the Delaware State Police, William Crotty, said the overwhelming outpouring of support serves as a reminder that Snook’s service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
The investigation into the shooting continues, and authorities are asking witnesses or others with pertinent information to contact detectives.
