Dehradun: Ed seizes assets worth Rs 2.20 crore in government scam

Dehradun, 3 October (IANS) Enforcement Directorate (ED) along with the government’s revenue department officials along with private persons seized immovable property at a price of Rs 2.20 crore in a case related to the encroachment of government land in Dehradun, an official said on Friday.

The assets attached by the investigating agency include Gopal Goenka -owned land, which is a prominent accused in the forgery and illegal land case, said an ED officer of the Dehradun sub zonal office.

The Federal Investigation Agency issued an provisional attachment order on 1 October in the case of Sudhir Windlas and others, in which the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), under the provisions of prevention of 2002 and an attachment of crime in the form of immovable property worth Rs 2.20 crore.

“The attached property includes the land owned by Gopal Goenka,” the statement states.

The ED launched the investigation based on the FIRS registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), various classes of IPC, Dehradun under 1860, in 1860 cases related to encroachment of government land by private persons along with government revenue officials.

The ED investigation has revealed that Goenka fraudulently sold two hectares of government land with other people in Johari village, Dehradun and manipulated the government revenue records in connivance with revenue officials.

It was revealed that the documents of the revenue departments like Khatunis and Khasra were tampered with in the records in the records.

The ED investigation further revealed that by selling 2 hectares of government land, Gopal Goenka generated sick money and used it to buy more assets.

According to investigators, Windlas was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau of Investigation Bureau (CBI) after a complaint of land fraud on 21 December, 2023.

The state government had ordered a CBI inquiry, which confirmed the allegations. A special CBI court in Dehradun later convicted Windlas and two others, inspiring them to challenge the verdict in the Uttarakhand High Court.
