Defense also expected to find operational savings as budget balloons: Ottawa

Ottawa-Ottawa is hoping that the department is expected to have national defense to find places to cut the day-to-day expenses as a overall budget balloon in the coming years.

Finance Minister François Filip Champagne sent letters to ministers on Monday and asked them to save 7.5 percent in their budget starting in FY 2026.

The next year increases 10 percent and 2028 cuts to 15 percent.

Champagne spokesman Audre Millet says that the National Defense Department will also have to save from its day-to-day cost.

She says that the policy speaks to balance the operating side of Ottawa’s budget in the coming years for the pledge of Prime Minister Mark Carney, even she is committed to increasing the rapid defense spending to meet NATO’s goals.

The union, representing public service workers, warned of extensive job losses and low services on Tuesday, if the planned cuts of Ottawa are physical.
