Guwahati, 27 September (IANS) Union Minister of Union Minister of Communications and Development North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Friday expressed deep grief over the death of famous singer and Assam’s cultural icon Zubine Garg.
Skindia, who arrived at Guwahati for a two -day Northeast tour, said Zubine Garg, his voice and music, United Assam, Northeast and all over the country.
“His contribution will be unforgettable, and his absence will be deeply felt in the music fraternity,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police on Friday issued a notice to the persons who had knowledge of the circumstances around the death of famous singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore last week.
He has been asked to appear within 10 days to record his statements, confirmed by a senior officer.
The investigation is being conducted by the 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the chairmanship of Special DGP MP Gupta.
A senior official said, “The death of Zubine Garg is under investigation. Notices have been given to all individuals associated with the sequence of incidents for his death. It is necessary to put it in front of investigators within 10 days,” said a senior official.
SIT personnel continued the discovery at the residence of Shyamakunu Mahata, the organizer of the North East India Festival, who conduct raids for the second consecutive day.
Earlier, Garg’s manager Siddharth Sharma and composer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami’s house – both drowned with the singer along with the singer during a boat journey in Singapore on 19 September.
The CID has widened its investigation to include members of Assamese Pravasi in Singapore which were present at the boat. Statements of artists and individuals of the state’s cultural fraternity were also recorded at the CID office in Guwahati on Friday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier assured that if the SIT investigation fails to meet public expectations, the state government would recommend the transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
