‘Deep insult to Freedom Struggle’: Congress on Honoring RSS

New Delhi, 1 October (IANS) Congress General Secretary (Organizations) KC Venugopal on Wednesday strongly criticized the decision of the National Government that the Rashtra government called it a “deep insult” for India’s independence movement and constitutional values.

In a post on X, Venugopal questioned the argument behind celebrating an organization, according to them, “collaborated with colonial rulers” and was banned by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel after Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.

“An organization banned by Sardar Patel can be honored by the Government of India today?” He asked.

The Congress leader accused the RSS of reducing the principles contained in the Constitution, especially social justice and secularism.

“Those who can advocate the agenda of social justice given by Dr. Ambedkar, who can be celebrated as a national icon?” He has written.

Venugopal’s comment came amid the ongoing debate on the ideological influence of the RSS on the rule and its historical role during the independence movement.

The Congress has long said that the RSS has not participated in the freedom struggle and has consistently opposed its recognition in the official monument.

The BJP, which has ideological relations for the RSS, has not released a formal response to Venugopal’s statement. However, party leaders have previously defended the RSS as a cultural and nationalist organization that contributes positively to the society.

The dispute is expected to promote further political debate, especially opposition parties intensified their criticism before the upcoming state elections.

The Congress has indicated that it will continue to challenge what it sees as an attempt to re -write history and dilute constitutional values.
