Barabanki, November 4 (IANS) The death toll in a horrific road accident on Kalyani river bridge on Deva-Fatehpur road in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki has increased to eight after two injured people died.
Six of the eight died on the spot. Two people who were seriously injured in the accident died in a Lucknow hospital, leaving the jeweler’s entire family devastated.
According to reports, a speeding truck and an unregistered Ertiga car collided head-on on the Kalyani river bridge late on Monday night.
The collision was so strong that the Ertiga car was completely shattered, causing panic in the area. Passersby immediately informed the police, who reached the spot and sent the injured to the district hospital. Two of them were later referred to Lucknow Trauma Centre, where they succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased have been identified as driver Shrikant Shukla, Pradeep Soni, his wife Madhuri Soni and their son Nitin, all residents of Fatehpur city. One of the dead is unidentified. The injured have been identified as Naimish, younger son of Pradeep Soni, and another unidentified person.
All the people in the car were returning home after bathing in the Ganga in Bithoor in Kanpur district.
On receiving information about the accident, District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi and Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya reached the spot and supervised the relief operations. SP Vijayvargiya said that in the preliminary investigation, the main reason for the accident is said to be high speed.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Yadav said that the bodies will be handed over to their families after post-mortem.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was traveling at a very high speed. It is being told that the driver lost control after seeing the car coming from the front, resulting in a horrific collision. Police have seized the truck.
