Death of Uttarakhand journalist: Investigation plays dishonestly as family as a family

New Delhi, 30 September (IANS) police deepened the investigation into the death of Uttarakhand journalist Rajiv Pratap, when his family dishonestly said in his disappearance and later recovering.

Pratap, who was missing since the night of 18 September, was found dead under vague conditions in Uttarkashi district. His body was taken from Joshira Barrage on 28 September, also known by the search teams as Josida Lake.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Janak Singh Panwar confirmed the recovery, while Superintendent of Police Sarita Doval said the post-mortem indicated internal injuries, which were usually involved in accidents. However, he admitted that the family had presented new facts, which led to a thorough investigation into the case.

The disappearance of Pratap increased the concern from the beginning.

On September 19, a day after the disappearance, his car was released on the banks of the Bhargati River, deepening the mystery.

His family constantly suspected dishonesty and urged the authorities to investigate thoroughly. His concerns were echoed by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA), which confirmed his death in a social media post and called for transparency in the investigation.

The association said, “We hope that the police will be clear with transparency in this case,”

Alok Pratap Singh, brother of independent journalist Rajiv Pratap, raised doubts over the circumstances of his death, claiming that Pratap’s injuries did not recover a car accident and alleged that he was receiving death threats in recent months. He said that his brother, who had been missing since the night of 18 September, had to face pressure to remove the stories that exposed poor conditions in the district hospital.
