gavin and stacey star ruth jones has reprized her beloved character Vanessa “Nessa” Jenkins in a new form BBC show.
This character made a surprise appearance Ruth and Steve: From Porthcawl With LoveAn event where Jones introduces fellow actor Steve Spears to her Welsh coastal hometown.
Spears, whose credits include tucker And upstart crowEncounters Nessa during a trip to the Coney Beach amusement park.
speaking on a Forgiveness At the screening, Spears said: “I had never acted with Nessa, and I think it’s an absolute credit to the character that Ruth has created, that when Ruth gets into all that gear, there’s a massive metamorphosis.”
“And when I went to act with that character, I just had this really bad feeling, that I wasn’t acting with Ruth, like something else had taken over.
“I tried to respond in a way that someone who wasn’t from that world, you know, who is quite surprised by this character would be.”
He added, “It wasn’t like Ruth at all.”

“I think what created such an iconic character is that there comes a moment when we all look at him and believe it’s two people, and that’s [Jones’s] Talent.”
Ruth & Steve: From Porthcawl with Love follows the pair as they explore the seaside town of Barry Island, about 20 miles down the south Wales coast.
As Porthcawl celebrates its 200th birthday, Jones reminisces about his childhood, sharing old home movies made by his late father Richard.

Speaking at the screening, he said: “My father was really good at organizing things, keeping records of things.
“When I saw him, I found it incredibly emotional to see my father.
“It was a real privilege to capture such a happy upbringing and those memories.
“It was also great to see Porthcawl of the 60s and 70s in those videos.”
During the event, Spears meets Jones’ mother, siblings, and two of her lifelong friends.
However, he joked that some of this material would have to be cut.
She said: “He was asking my friends how I was as a teenager.
“But, you know, they were quite revealing.”
Ruth and Steve: From Porthcawl With Love Will be broadcast on BBC One Wales on 15 December at 9pm.
