Katherine Michael, an attorney representing the family for Connell Michael LLP, called the alleged abuse “one of the most serious cases, I think we’ve ever seen, when we look, over time, at what this child has been deprived of.”
Tammy Meyer, another attorney at Metzger Rosta LLP, who is also representing the family, said the student is nonverbal and will do acts such as taking off his clothes to try to get the staff’s attention. She claims staff ignored the child’s attempts to get food or attention.

“They were taking away food from him to such an extent that he lost several pounds in a week,” Meyer said. “And then on top of that, they start videoing her – several staff members are filming her in the nude on their personal cellphones. I can’t think of a more horrific form of abuse than what we’re seeing here.”
According to lawyers, the student’s mother became suspicious that something was wrong when the child started expressing fear before going to school.
Michael said the schools displayed a “history of educational neglect” in their dealings with the student.
“That means they’re not teaching this child what they’re supposed to be teaching, not teaching them to communicate, not teaching them functional skills – and this has gone on over two or three years.”
