The 224lb-limit cruiserweight division was implemented by the WBC to bridge the gap between the larger heavyweights and cruiserweights, with fighters in boxing’s most glamorous division often weighing more than 40lb heavier than the 200lb cruiserweight limit.

Allen weighed in at 259 pounds for the fight with Makhmudov, meaning he would have to lose 35 pounds to compete at bridgerweight. During his debut against Rolandas Cessna in 2012, Allen fought at the lightest weight ever, 232 pounds.
Despite admitting that he was ‘not good enough’ immediately after his loss to Makhmudov, Allen said he still had the boxing bug in him.
