World dart championship the stage has been fed up by one unexpected anti: waspInspiring a competitor to take matters into their own hands.
Jurgen van der Velde caused a stir at Alexandra Palace in north London ahead of his first-round match on Tuesday. The Dutchman took insect repellent out of his pocket and sprayed it liberally in the air and on himself, much to the delight of the crowd.
Van der Velde was later seen wiping his face with a cloth. The tournament organizer, the Professional Darts Corporation, later questioned Ax about whether the player “was emotional or had sprayed bug spray in his eyes.”

In an all-Dutch match, Van der Velde lost 3–1 to Danny Noppert.
Wasps have been interfering with players during the opening day of Worlds, affecting their throws and post-match interviews. One player, Nitin Kumar, even killed a wasp mid-flight with his dart on Sunday.
