leeds boss Daniel Falk Said he was “a little disappointed” after the team’s 1-1 draw with Fierce. Rose rivals manchester united Elland Road.

Brenden Aaronson gave Leeds the lead in the second half of a hotly contested derby, but the visitors equalized three minutes later through Matheus Cunha.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit the post with a first-half header as Leeds United beat the visitors in the league for the first time in 23 years.

Falke said: “First of all, I have to say I’m proud of the lads because it was certainly a tricky situation for us. We had to cross the line two and a half days ago to get a hard-earned clean sheet (at Liverpool).

“There are not a few key players today to face a team like Manchester United and by the way, everyone will tell you how big this game is – it’s the most important game in Leeds United’s recent history.

“So I’m very proud of the resilience my players showed again.

“We had another very competitive, very good performance. I think from a football perspective it was probably not our best day.

“But despite that, we found a way to be competitive again and for that, if I’m really honest, we didn’t even take all three points, which is even a little bit disappointing.”

Leeds charged for a late winner when substitute Joel Piroe threatened Falke’s side, who extended their unbeaten run to seven games and eight points above the relegation zone with a first league win over their arch-rivals since September 2002.

“Maybe it says a lot too – when you’re seven games unbeaten in the Premier League as a promoted team and even to be disappointed with just a draw against Manchester United, (because) a lot of key players are missing.

“But I couldn’t help myself. The feeling was there. I thought this game was definitely winnable.”

Ruben Amorim’s side are themselves without a long list of key players but have improved greatly after being booed in their last game against lowly Wolves in a 1-1 draw at home.

Amorim missed out on a brief chance to break into the top four but were pleased with a point – only his side’s sixth in their last five league games.

The Portuguese said: “I think we did a good job. We improved a lot compared to the last game.

“We controlled the aggressiveness of Leeds’ attack very well. We controlled the one-on-one situations very well. It was a very good environment and they did a good job.”

Leny Yoro’s first-half header forced Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri into a fine reflex save and Benjamin Sesko fired wide from six yards after Cunha raced on to equalize with substitute Joshua Zirkzee’s through ball.

Amorim added: “We controlled the ball, the contact and the positioning of the players more. I think they were in a better position and that showed in the way we played.”

“We have more chances to score than our opponents, but we don’t need to think about the next goal.”
