Playing any match abroad destroys the fairness of LaLiga, Real Madrid defender dani carvajal Said.
Barcelona face-off fixed Villarreal In Miami in December, pending final approval fifa,
Villarreal will be the designated home team, but given their global fan base, it is more likely to feel like an extra home game for Barça.
Carvajal believes this creates imbalances and affects the integrity of competition.
“I think this is a clear manipulation of the competition, which does not allow all LaLiga teams to compete at the same level. I think it is essential that we, the players themselves, the clubs and the league itself remain fair,” he has told Teledeporte.
“We have to advocate for fairness and I don’t think this does that.”
Players are protesting the move by refusing to move for the first few seconds of each game in the current round of LaLiga matches.
Speaking ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday night, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois pulled no punches in his assessment of the proposal.
“This completely adulterates the competition,” the Belgian told a news conference.
“They (LaLiga) kept it because it is in their interests to do so and it adulterates the competition, plus it does not comply with the players’ agreement.
“We have to play home and away. Playing any team home and away is not the same.
“In LaLiga, playing away from home is very complicated, as it happened to us against Real Sociedad or Getafe.
“They are complex games and Villarreal away is a difficult game. Then you can win or lose, but barring force majeure everyone has to play home and away.”
uefa has reluctantly given the go ahead to the Villarreal-Barcelona match and the Serie A clash between AC Milan and Como in Australia next February.
UEFA president Aleksandar Ceferin stressed that the decision to sanction on an “exceptional” basis does not set any precedent.
Fan groups have protested against the move, but Serie A chiefs believe it is an important step to help increase the league’s worldwide appeal.
LaLiga President javier tebas Said it was a “historic step” and added: “We understand and respect the concerns raised by this decision, but it’s important to put it in context: this is one game out of 380 that make up the season.
“LaLiga represents millions of fans around the world, many of whom passionately follow their teams and deserve the chance to experience watching them live at least once.
“This match is about bringing our football closer to the global fan base without diluting the enjoyment of those who enjoy it all week long in stadiums across Spain.”
