A Florida father has been arrested and accused of theft 400 pounds avocado From a farm, allegedly to pay for his children’s Christmas gifts.
Adele Perez, 29, was seen “dressed all in black” early Monday picking fruit from a farm in the Redlands area of South Florida owned by Grove Services Incorporated.
Miami-Dade Police received an arrest report. by wplgPerez told officers he knew “he was taking something that didn’t belong to him. However, he has no employment and two children and was planning to sell avocados on the street to buy Christmas gifts for his children,” the report said.

Deputies observed Perez driving away from the farm with its fence completely cut down. After following him to his Mercedes-Benz, they allege they found several black bags filled with avocados in his car and more in the trunk.
According to the arrest report, police estimated that the bag contained approximately 400 pounds of fruit, with a total street value of approximately $800.
Perez was charged with third-degree grand theft and trespassing on an agricultural site.
As of Monday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $5,000 bond.
