‘Severe Cyclonic Storm’MonthChief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on Friday, October 31, ‘There has been widespread damage across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the initial loss in Andhra alone estimated at Rs 5,265 crore.
Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, Naidu gave department-wise losses, which included ₹2,079 crore in roads and buildings, ₹1,270 crore in fisheries, ₹829 crore in agriculture and ₹40 crore in horticulture. Other affected departments include water resources (₹207 crore), municipal administration (₹109 crore), and Panchayat Raj (₹9 crore).
The Chief Minister said that a report will be sent to the Centre, the figures will be updated as further assessments come.
Naidu said the government’s early preparations and use of technology helped reduce casualties. “We deployed over 600 drones to monitor water bodies, used the Man Mitra app to track field operations and leveraged geo-tagged data to coordinate relief,” he said. He said major reservoirs are now 90% full, holding 98.5 TMC of water and more than one crore alert messages have been sent to residents.
Energy Minister G Ravi Kumar said the cyclone severely affected the state’s power infrastructure, damaging around 13,000 electric poles, 3,000 km-long conductor lines and 3,000 transformers. Despite the widespread impact, approximately 1,500 personnel were deployed for emergency restoration, with power supply restored to most areas within 24 hours. The feeders associated with agriculture and aquaculture are expected to be operational within 48 hours.
Kumar criticized YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying he had “no moral right to speak about cyclones,” adding that effective preparations had prevented large-scale loss of life.
In Telangana, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said more than 4.47 lakh acres of crops were damaged in 12 districts, affecting 2.53 lakh farmers. The most affected areas include Warangal (1.3 lakh acres), Khammam (62,400 acres) and Nalgonda (52,000 acres). Paddy and cotton crops suffered the most damage. Rao said the final figures would be updated after a detailed survey and assured full support to the affected farmers.
Cyclone Montha made landfall near Antarvedi village in Konaseema district and caused heavy rains in Nellore, Bapatla and Prakasam, causing inundation of many low-lying areas and disrupting power and transport services in the coastal region.
